Press release -

JYSK commits to more sustainable cotton

By the end of 2024, all cotton for JYSK's textile products will be either recycled or sourced in a more sustainable way.

JYSK is working on several fronts to reduce the negative impact on the environment. One of the things the company focuses on is the raw materials used for their products.

Therefore, JYSK has now set a specific goal for cotton: By the end of 2024, all cotton sourced for the production of the company's textile products must be more sustainable.

JYSK defines more sustainable cotton as either organic cotton, recycled cotton or cotton sourced through the organisation Better Cotton Initiative (BCI).

“We have been focusing on cotton for a long time, as traditionally a lot of water and pesticide are used in the cotton production. That is why JYSK has, among other things, sold a number of products produced with organic cotton. Now we are ready to take the next big step regarding the rest of the assortment and set a specific goal, which includes all of our textile products,” says Rune Jungberg Pedersen, Communications & CSR Director at JYSK.

When JYSK sets a target including all textile products, it corresponds to all of the company's products, where textiles make up at least 80 percent of the product's weight.

"It is an obvious focus area and the goal includes a considerable part of our range," says Rune Jungberg Pedersen.

Collaboration with Better Cotton Initiative

JYSK is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), which is an international non-profit organisation working to promote better standards within the global cotton production. The goal is to change the sector, so that in the long term all cotton will be produced in a more sustainable way.

Currently, BCI has trained more than two million cotton farmers on how to use less water and fewer pesticides in the cotton production. The training also includes social aspects, such as proper working conditions.
